Fall 2012 Undergraduate Research Winners

Phillip Gross, Senior, LB Biochemistry major. Phillip will be working with Dr. Claire Vieille from Microbiology and Molecular Genetics on a program entitled: Mechanism of T.meritima glycerol dehydrogenase inactivation by dihydroxyacetone.

Santosh Gunturu, Senior, LB Biochemistry and Computer Science major. Santosh will be working with Dr. Leslie Kuhn from the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department. His research project title is Development of 3kPZS Antagonists for Sea-Lamprey Control.

Kevin Kelly, Senior, LB Physiology major. Kevin will be working with Dr. Kathleen Gallo from the Physiology Department on a project entitled: Hypertension and Cardiac Hypertrophy in MLK3 Knockout Mice.

Caitlin Kirby, Senior, LB Environmental Biology/Microbiology major. Caitlin will be working with Dr. Wei Shan from Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences on a project entitled: Transport of Environmental Phytophthora Zoospores in Soils.

Garrett Kohler, Sophomore, History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Science major. Garrett will be working with Lyman Briggs History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Science professor Dr. Sean Valles on a project entitled: Performance Enhancing Drugs in Athletics as a Model for Understanding the Ethics and Policy Challenges of Artificial Cognitive Enhancers.

Bo Parsons, Junior, LB Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major. Bo will be working with Dr. Ryan Sweeder, LBC Chemistry professor, on a project using descriptive statistics to better understand the relationship between several academic factors in a students’ academic learning experience and their MCAT scores.

Rebecca Tauscher, Sophomore, LB Chemistry major. Rebecca will be working with Prof. Ryan Sweeder, LBC Chemistry professor, on a project entitled: Comparing the Longitudinal Impacts of Three formats of MSU General Chemistry Courses.
